Come out to the
Inaugural Celebration of the Arts in Ward 4 Neighborhoods
Saturday, June 29, 2019, from 2:00 PM ’til 4:00 PM
at Kingsbury Education Center at 5000 14th Street, NW.
Some of the featured artists are our neighbors!!! The Celebration of the Arts in Ward 4 Neighborhoods is brought to you by the Ward 4 Arts, Humanities and Creative Economy Committee established by Councilmember Brandon Todd.
Event supporters include Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd, Office of Cable and Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME), Urban Atlantic, Shepherd Park Citizens Association, Burns & Noble Group, Lisa Simpson, Target, THUHA Inc., Hashim Hassan, H2 Design Build LLC, Community Alliance for Upper Fourteenth Street (CAUFS), Office Catering, and members of the committee. Diverse artistic genre will be on view including paintings, ceramics, jewelry, photography, and sculpture.
The program includes a dance performance, poetry reading, and jazz. Highlighted artists which include Davey Yarborough, Joshua Jenkins Trio, Colbert King, Francesca Britton, Sandi Hannapal, Dine Watson, More than Drums, Christin Clyburn, Beatrice Davis-Williams, and Bobby Austin and more.
Zenith Gallery presents watercolors by Richard Fitzhugh, sculptures by Margery Goldberg, paintings by Sabiyha Prince, and photography by Karen Starika.
Chinyere Hubbard with Events DC and George Collinet (former broadcaster and a Peabody Award winner) will give greetings and announce the live entertainment. The Ward 4 Arts, Humanities & Creative Economy Committee includes a wide range of artists, creators, and arts administrators who provide a Ward 4 perspective including policy suggestions on the state of the arts, humanities and creative economy in the city.
The Committee meets monthly at the Takoma Busboys and Poets with the support of Andy Shallal, proprietor of the restaurant, bookstore, and performance venue that makes Busboys and Poets so “DC”.
