SPCC Seeks Volunteers at A Wider Circle
Local outreach initiative
Shepherd Park Christian Church (SPCC) loves to give back to the local community! One key program where assistance is needed is the Essential Support Program at the A Wider Circle Center for Community Service. This program focuses on providing basic need items for the home to clients seeking to rise out of poverty. The donations they receive include household furniture, linens, kitchen items, toys, and professional clothing and accessories. Through this program, they furnish about 20 homes a day!
The volunteer groups will help sort donations, restock showrooms, and assist clients as they are selecting items to take home. They kick the day off with an orientation and tour of the center and then break off into smaller working groups. Assisting with the Essential Support Program is their most popular way to engage with and help people in need. Hours are 9:00 am – 5:30 pm Monday – Saturday and 12:00 pm – 5:30 pm on Sunday’s and Volunteer Groups often assist for 2.5 – 3 hour time frames but A Wider Circle would be more than happy to host us for any length of time that best fits our schedule. I would like to schedule Shepherd Park Volunteer Team on August 25, from 9:00am – 1:00pm or 10:00am – 2:00pm. This gives us time to coordinate with individuals who are interested. If anyone can think of a more suitable time, date, or has any other suggestions or questions, please let me know.
All volunteers need to read and complete the Volunteer Packet Summer 2018. The waiver form requires a parent or guardian to sign off for anyone under the age of 18. I have also attached Parking Directions 2018 for finding the best off-site parking, as they have very limited on-site parking for volunteers. In addition, all volunteers must dress in t-shirts (shoulders covered – no tank tops) and sturdy, closed toed shoes. (Sneakers are fine). Please dress for the weather and bring a reusable water bottle. Please pass this information to anyone who may be interested. Thanks.
