DC Census Sabbath November 8-10, 2019
The Washington, DC Mayor’s Office of Religious Affairs is inviting the faith community to participate in the DC Census Sabbath happening November 8-10, 2019.
In DC, up to 40% of all Census tracts are at risk of a significant undercount. An undercount impacts not only these populations but the entire City. Census data is used to allocate Federal dollars back to DC through entitlement programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, Housing Vouchers, Title 1 Education Grants, and School Lunch Programs just to name a few. DC receives over $3 billion annually through these programs because of census data.
So, we need your help to spread awareness about the importance of participation, why it matters to your community, and how to complete the form in March 2020. There are many ways to participate this fall including sharing information in bulletins, online newsletters, working committees and during worship services. We are rallying for at least 50 houses of worship to participate in the DC Census Sabbath Weekend.
For more information on how to participate, either email firstname.lastname@example.org or call our office at (202) 442-8150. Please note that we will need a contact person from your organization who is able to receive Census packets.
