Enter our MLK Jr. Day Scholarship & Talent Contest
Theme: Inspired by a dream: Where do we go from here?

Youth & young adults 30 & under are invited to participate in our first Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day scholarship contest! Each year, the Capital Area Region honors the civil rights leader at during the MLK holiday weekend. In 2018, our MLK Jr. Day Tribute & Action will be held on Sunday January 14, from 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. at United Christian Parish in Reston, Virginia.

We are excited about next year’s Tribute and contest where you can share your views and dreams about the life and legacy of Dr. King. Contest winners will receive $100.00. Those who can have their work displayed at the Tribute. It’s easy as 1-2-3. Here’s how:

Essay
For all those who will be attending undergraduate college Fall of 2018: Write an essay on what our theme means to you. Submissions should include:

1) A 5- page double spaced essay in 12 point-type describing what Dr. King and our Tribute theme mean to you.
2) A bio containing your demographic information, your church, community, and education and career goals.
3) A Hi-Resolution photo (Head-shot or Candid)

Creative Arts
Share your poem/ spoken word, visual art, music or dance talent with the community. Submissions should include:

1) A manuscript of your poem, still photo of your visual art, or video recording of your performance of your musical or dance composition (no more than 3 minutes long)
2) A bio containing your demographic information, your church, community, and education and career goals.
3) A Hi-Resolution photo (Head-shot or Candid)

Entry Deadline: December 7, 2017
Limit 1 essay and 1 art submission per person
Winners notified: By December 18, 2017
